VIVA! Family Fine Arts Festival

VIVA! Performing Arts School
Canterbury Music Society, Ltd.
This three-day Festival features outstanding artists in programs designed to attract families throughout the region to visit Dixon and introduce their children to fine music. Funds will be raised to benefit AIDS Orphanages in Zambia and Kenya. Events will celebrate the local community and explore our place in the wider world by experiencing cultural diversity.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18_______________
SONGS OF AFRICA CONCERT
When: 7:30pm
Where: Historic Dixon Theatre
Tickets: $10 adult/$5 student/$20 family pack*
Description: Vocal ensemble specializing in African song, including audience participation with rhythm & movement! Ten percent of proceeds to benefit orphanages in Kenya & Zambia. A matching grant of $250 has been provided by Dixon Sister Cities Association.

BENEFIT DESSERT RECEPTION
When: immediately following the concert
Where: The Next Picture Show
Suggested Donation: $5 per person/$10 family pack*
Description: Enjoy a selection of sweets after the concert. Proceeds to benefit orphanages in Kenya & Zambia.

YOUNG MUSICIAN’S SHOWCASE
HANDS-ON ART EXPERIENCES
DRESS-UP TEA PARTY
When: 1:00pm to 4:00pm
Where: The Next Picture Show & St. Luke’s Episcopal Church
Tickets: $10 adult/$5 student/$20 family pack*
Description: Students from the new VIVA! Performing Arts School will be showcased in a short concert at The Next Picture Show. This is a great opportunity for children to see their peers perform! Then we move to St. Luke’s Church for everyone to experience the arts first-hand through games and demonstrations. We end the afternoon with a Dress-Up Tea Party. Children are encouraged to bring a ‘friend’ (favorite toy, Teddy Bear, GI Joe, etc.) and explore our costume department to dress up!

TAPAS TASTING CONCERT
When: 7:30pm
Where: The Next Picture Show
Suggested Donation: $35 per person
Description: Adults will be pampered with an elegant night on the town! A light tasting menu of international tapas courses will be served between musical offerings from Soprano Michelle Areyzaga and Pianist Robert Vanderschaaf. A highlight of the evening will be the world premier of “The Promised Land,” a set of four spirituals by American composer Gwyneth Walker.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20______________
FAMILY CLASSICAL POPS CONCERT
When: 3:00pm
Where: Historic Dixon Theatre
Tickets: $10 adult/$5 student/$20 family pack*
Description: Join Soprano Michelle Areyzaga and The Metropolis Chamber Orchestra in a program of classics to delight young and old! Short, lively pieces will showcase various instruments of the orchestra under the baton of Maestro Tim Boles. Local children will be featured as soloists in Haydn’s “Toy Symphony,” and we end the program with Mozart’s sublime and uplifting “Exsultate Jubilate” for Soprano and Orchestra. During the intermission children can experience a ‘Symphony Petting Zoo” to get a close-up look at how the instruments of the orchestra are played. A great way to introduce children to fine music in a relaxed and casual setting!
